EUMCCI-UTM Seminar on Ocean Energy: Aqua Powering the Future

  Business France , as part of the project Support for European Business in South East Asia Malaysia Markets Component - SEBSEAM and as the leader of the sector "Energy and Environment" , has organized a symposium on Marine Renewable Energies (MRE). The event was organized in collaboration with the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia ( EUMCCI) and the Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM ).   The event, dedicated to investment opportunities in the MRE sector, allowed 6 French companies ( Bardot Ocean, DCNS, Guinard Energies, NOV-BLM, Principia, Sabella ), all specialized in Ocean Thermal Energy, Tidal Barrage, Tidal Current Energy and Wave Energy to meet with local actors of the MRE sector (Universities, local authorities and private actors).   Programs over the two days included general market analysis, networking sessions and presentations of the European know-how and offer. This event offered a good opportunity to European companies to better understand the market and to meet with the local players.  

First collaboration between Vinci Construction and University Malaya to build more high-skilled talent in Greater Kuala Lumpur

  The University of Malaya and VINCI Construction, a French major global player in the construction sector, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in R&D in the field of Capacity Building and Local Talent Development.   The project spanning 3 years will facilitate mutual sharing of best practices and expertise in the area of construction and engineering. These include final year projects for undergraduates, internship and employment opportunities, joint R&D activities, participation in seminars and academic sessions and worksite visits.   According to Michel Oliveres, Director of VINCI Construction Grands Projets Malaysia, their success in Asia goes through the integration into the local economic and social life, in particular by bringing onboard local talents.  

16 French Companies explore opportunities for Smart Cities with major Malaysian actors

  In the context of the visit of Mrs. Michèle Pappalardo, French Government representative for Smart and Sustainable cities “Vivapolis” label, in Kuala Lumpur on the 5 th of May 2015, 16 French companies have participated to the Vivapolis seminar.     As an introduction to further discussions, the seminar began with a presentation of the umbrella brand Vivapolis, which coordinates the French know how in the field of sustainable city in front of the French companies to sensibilize the Malaysian to the French project and expertise.     In response to this quick presentation, the MIGHT, TNB and ISKANDAR have presented the opportunities and their initiatives in the development of smart and ecocities. A panel discussion followed for further exchange on the French offer relative to Malaysian development moderated by Mr. Nasser El Mamoune, French Trade Commissioner and Mrs. Pappalardo. Three thematics have been assessed leading to the creation of business relationships: Energy efficiency and building materials, Smart water network and Smart transports systems. The session has been adjourned by a teh Tarik moment allowing personal and precise exchange on future collaboration.      

3rd Edition of the Malaysia – France Defence SME Seminar

The 3 rd Edition of the Malaysia – France Defence SME Seminar was held in Kuala Lumpur on the 19 th of May 2014. A total of 20 French SMEs from the defence sector participated in this year’s edition, which was held at Wisma Perwira, Kuala Lumpur. The seminar was co-organised by the Defence Section of the Embassy of France in Malaysia, the General Directorate for Armament (DGA), the French Trade Commission (UBIFRANCE) as well as the Defence Industry Division of the Malaysian Ministry of Defence. French industrial groups of aeronautics (GIFAS), naval defence (GICAN) and ground defence (GICAT) also lent their support to the event. The event welcomed 35 Malaysian companies from the defence and civil sectors. The seminar was inaugurated by Dato’ Zulkafli bin Abdul Karim, the Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of Ministry of Defence Malaysia, and Rear Admiral Pascal Ausseur, the Director for Asia-Pacific, Directorate International Development of DGA, Ministry of Defence France with the presence of the Ambassador of France to Malaysia, H.E. Madame Martine Dorance. The morning session began with presentations from various government agencies including Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Ministry of Finance, Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). These presentations were an opportunity for the French delegation to gain an overview of the business opportunities present in the Malaysian defence industry, as well as the processes and procedures involved in entering the Malaysian market. Workshops which focused on presentations from the French SMEs were organised for the mid-morning session, allowing them to showcase their expertise in their respective domains. Business to business (BtoB) and Business to Government (BtoG) meetings were arranged during the afternoon, for the French delegates to share their experience and their know – how with their Malaysian counterparts. The event ended with a networking cocktail in the evening at the Embassy of France in Malaysia.   The 3 rd Edition of the Malaysia – France Defence SME Seminar 2014 was sponsored by: Dassault Aviation, DCNS, MBDA & Safran. Architecture and Urban Planning: The French Touch

The 2 nd edition of Malaysian-French Seminar on Architecture and Urban Planning was held once again in Kuala Lumpur on the 27 th and 28 th March 2014. Similar to the previous year, the event was organized by AFEX (French Architects’ Overseas Association) and French Trade Commission-Ubifrance Malaysia. This year, the city welcomed a delegation of 5 world renowned French architects comprising town planners, city revitalization firms and monument preservation experts.   Mr. François Roux, the President of AFEX 2014 was among the French firms who participated in the event. He was also representing his architecture company, A234 during this occasion. The other French firms were AS.Architecture-Studio, ADPI, Richez Associés and WY-TO. The peak of the event was a conference dinner at Tanzini Upperdeck, G-Tower regrouping around 50 Malaysians counterparts. The invitees have showed high interest in possible collaboration between professionals from Malaysia and France through interactive presentations by the French delegates along with the networking session. The French delegates had also paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture on the 27 th March as well as visits to City Hall of Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) Head Office and City Hall of Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Head Office on the 28 th March 2014. These visits not only allowed an exchange with local authorities and their architects related to on-going and future urban developments in Malaysia but also an opportunity for the French delegates to share their experience and expertise.

1st Edition of SOUDAX Seminar on Micro Resistance Welding and Applications in Kuala Lumpur

UBIRFRANCE Malaysia organised  the first ever seminar on Micro Resistance Welding and Applications. on the 17th of February 2014. The event was supported by SOUDAX, the French expert company in resistance micro welding since 1973. The speaker at the event was Mrs. Céline Cochet - Vedel, the Export Manager for Soudax.    The seminar began with a presentation of Soudax’s areas of expertise, followed by a demonstration on the industrial applications of their products and a interactive networking lunch. Professionals from the automotive, aeronautic, battery industries were present at the seminar, along with representatives from the academic field. Overall, the seminar was a very interactive affair, with many questions on this new technology posed to Mrs. Céline Cochet Vedel.    Soudax is currently present in Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, India, Russia, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, North America, Australia …  

First MALAYSIA FRANCE Seminar on small and medium defense enterprises

  The First Franco-Malaysian seminar on small and medium defense enterprises was held in Kuala Lumpur on January 15 and 16. For its first edition in Malaysia, 34 French SMEs in the defense sector have made the trip accompanied by six major group sponsors (Dassault Aviation, DCNS, EADS, MBDA, Safran, Thales). On the other hand, over 80 Malaysian companies from the defense and dual sectors came to meet the French SMEs.   The seminar was co-organised by the Defence Mission, the DGA (General Directorate for Armament), Ubifrance and Defence Industry Division of the Malaysian Ministry of Defence. French industrial groups of aeronautics (GIFAS), naval defense (GICAN) and ground defense (GICAT) also lent their support to the event. The seminar was inaugurated by the Depuity Minister of Defence of Malaysia and the Director of International Development of DGA in the presence of the Ambassador of France. To enable SMEs to better prepare French meetings held with Malaysian companies, the Embassy had received on January 14, SMEs to introduce and brief them on the Malaysian context.
