EADS Astrium’s designed & manufactured Measat-3B to be launched in mid-May

Measat Global Bhd will be launching its sixth satellite, the RM1.2 billion Measat-3B, in French Guiana, South America, in mid-May this year. As prime contractor for Measat-3B, EADS Astrium is responsible for the design and manufacture of the satellite, and the supply of both payload and platform. Measat-3B is built by EADS Astrium based on Eurostar 3000 platform. According to Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Measat-3B which covers Malaysia, Indonesia, South Asia and Australia will help to increase connectivity level up by between 10% to 20%, bridging the digital gaps in Malaysia. Currently, the connectivity level in Malaysia is around 65%, whereby rural areas still have limited access for communication. Measat-3B is a powerful satellite that will more than double the current Ku-Band capacity operated by Measat and allow the Malaysian operator to meet the increasing requirements of direct-to-home and telecommunications services in the region. Measat-3B is completed and being kept in France before it will be launch in May. Measat-3B is designed to have a launch mass of 5.8 tonnes, and electrical power of 16kW and is planned for an operational lifetime of over 15 years. MEASAT orders latest satellite from Astrium (EADS)

MEASAT Global Berhad, malaysian premium supplier of satellite communication services, has selected the 7th of June 2011 Astrium the number one company in Europe for space technologies, to build a new satellite to increase its core Ku-Band business in Malaysia, India and Indonesia. Planned to be launched in 2013 and positioned at 91.5°E, the powerful MEASAT-3b satellite will more than double the current Ku-Band capacity operated by MEASAT.   It’s the biggest satellite communication never order by MEASAT. It is designed to have a launch mass of 5.8 ton, an electrical power of 16 kW, and is planned for more than 15 years of operation.   Based on Astrium’s Eurostar E3000 platform and it will be able to provide 48 Ku-Band transponders simultaneously, providing MEASAT with large capacity and flexibility over the three distinct geographical locations. This satellite has also been designed to support a fourth market and it will cost 1billion MYR (around 230 millions €).   Since launching the first model Eurostar, Inmarsat-2 F1, 30 October 1990, Astrium Eurostar satellites have accumulated nearly 400 years of successful operations in orbit. Astrium is part of the giant European aerospace EADS and the satellite will be produced in France.  

Geographic Information and Space Technologies Seminar

The French Trade Commission UBIFRANCE in Malaysia organized the first Malaysian-French seminar on Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis in Kuala Lumpur on the 7th and 8th April 2011. A delegation of four French companies was present at this event: - Mr. Martin ROBILLARD, Asia Representative at ASTRIUM (subsidiary of EADS, the leading European space company) - Ms. Nadège ORLOVA, Regional Manager at IGN France International (Leader actor in engineering geographic information) - David REUILIE, Key account Manager at SAFT ( Leader in high technology batteries) - Mr. Jean-Philippe LESTANG, International Development Manager at GROUPE FIT (Provides the expertise and services required for regional and asset development) This first edition gathered around 40 participants such as government and local authorities, institutions, agencies, research organizations and private companies, active in the geographic information systems sector. The seminar was followed by a networking lunch and individual B2B meetings. On April 8th, the French delegates were warmly welcomed by the MaCGDI (Malaysia Center for Geospatial Infrastructure) and by the Remote Sensing Agency of Malaysia. The positive feedback from the French has been encouraging so far. We hope, this event has built ties between France and Malaysia in the GIS sector and is the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration
