11 French industry experts had the opportunity to meet with major actors in the Malaysian and Indonesian markets. The continuous support from the national electricity operators from Indonesia, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has undoubtedly ensured the success of this event. This year was the 3rd edition in Malaysia and the first in Indonesia. This platform has allowed our French companies to showcase their know-how within these fast growing markets of ASEAN. The event also provides a conducive and constructive environment through B2B meetings, where both local key players and French companies, were able to share their expertise and understanding on how they could work together in the near future. All participants agreed that the occasion has facilitated their business development activities and also promoted new business opportunities.

EUMCCI-UTM Seminar on Ocean Energy: Aqua Powering the Future

  Business France , as part of the project Support for European Business in South East Asia Malaysia Markets Component - SEBSEAM and as the leader of the sector "Energy and Environment" , has organized a symposium on Marine Renewable Energies (MRE). The event was organized in collaboration with the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia ( EUMCCI) and the Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM ).   The event, dedicated to investment opportunities in the MRE sector, allowed 6 French companies ( Bardot Ocean, DCNS, Guinard Energies, NOV-BLM, Principia, Sabella ), all specialized in Ocean Thermal Energy, Tidal Barrage, Tidal Current Energy and Wave Energy to meet with local actors of the MRE sector (Universities, local authorities and private actors).   Programs over the two days included general market analysis, networking sessions and presentations of the European know-how and offer. This event offered a good opportunity to European companies to better understand the market and to meet with the local players.  

High Speed Rail : Malaysia and Singapore will build their own portion of HSR track

The CEO of SPAD Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said that Malaysia and Singapore would build their respective portions of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) link’s track. The Malaysian Government would appoint an asset management company for the construction and the maintenance of the HSR’s signaling and communications network. Another company would be appointed to operate the HSR.   Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan also said that for the financial part, the rail project would be shared between both countries based on an “equitable fair percentage” .

Malaysia and Singapore High-Speed Rail project

  On the 19 th July 2016, Malaysia and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, signifying both countries’ commitment towards this iconic project.   Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak signed the agreement contract during an official ceremony, which was held at the latter’s official residence at Sri Perdana.   Each country will be responsible for the development, construction and maintenance of the civil infrastructure and stations within their own domain through MyHSR Corporation for Malaysia and the Land Transport Authority for Singapore.   The HSR project, targeted for commercial operations in 2026, will have eight stations, namely Bandar Malaysia, Putrajaya, Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat, Iskandar Puteri and Singapore. The 350km rail would reduce travel time between the two countries to just 90 minutes, with speeds of over 300km per hour.    The rail link reflects improved relations in recent years and both governments will call for open international tenders in August 2016 to appoint a joint development partner.

Colas Rail won Malaysia MRT2 package

MRT Corp has awarded the system work package SY205 of MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line (MRT2) to Colas Rail Consortium. The RM 693.03 million (152.46 million euro) package includes the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of power supply and distribution system. The decision was made following a One-Stop Procurement Committee Meeting (OSPC) chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak. Meanwhile, the system work page of commercial telecom and information technology has been awarded to local company Sapura – EVD Consortium, while another local company SN Akmida Holding Sdn Bhd has won the construction of Sungai Besi Police Quarters.   To be able to win the bidding process, foreign companies need to prove in their tender that they have created joint venture with local company, with the weightage of work undertaken by the local company to be no less than 30%.  MRT requires local companies to participate actively in the MRT Project to further encourage knowledge transfer into Malaysian economy .

From the 29 th May to 3 rd June 2016 a French Infrastructure Excellence trade mission was co-organized by BusinessFrance, BpiFrance and Société Générale. A delegation of 16 French companies were hosted by the respective Business France offices located in Singapore & Kuala Lumpur. Singapore and Malaysia are considered by recent surveys as the top 2 most attractive infrastructure markets in Asia, which resulted in decision to appoint the two nations as joint host countries for a French Infrastructure Excellence mission. The 16 French companies who were selected for the mission are experts in fields of infrastructure, with a focus on railways solutions, construction equipment and services, urban innovation and energy systems. The companies were selected by Business France (Trade Commission), Bpifrance, the French Public Investment Bank and by Société Générale, one of the leading financial Banking and services groups in Europe. The purpose of this mission was to highlight the potential areas of business between French companies and the Malaysian market, with the aim of creating new partnerships and collaborations in the near future. On the morning of 1 st June, the delegation was welcomed in Kuala Lumpur by His Excellency Mr. Christophe Penot, Ambassador of France and by Mr. Nasser El Mamoune, French Trade Commissioner and Director of Business France in Malaysia. After several key presentations on macroeconomic topics and cultural differences in Malaysia, a networking lunch was organized with members of various public agencies as well as key players in the infrastructure sector. The first two days of the mission were dedicated to Business meetings, and the second day ended with a business coaching session and a cocktail at the Residence of France.  The mission was a real success, with very promising results and a clear demonstration of the strong potential and value-add of French expertise in Malaysia and South-East Asia.
