Orolia Awarded $34 Million Contract to Deliver Personnel Recovery Devices to the US Army

This PRD is a dual-mode, MIL-SPEC Personal Locator Beacon that will be integrated into the Army’s Personnel Recovery Support System (PRSS). The PRD will be capable of transmitting both open and secure signals (training-combat dual mode) to alert and notify that a soldier has become isolated, missing, detained or captured.    This innovative positioning device will optimize a successful rescue operation for soldiers in a distress situation through secure enhanced capabilities. It has been designed to meet military standards and specifications, and has improved accuracy, decreased size, weight and power (SWaP) requirements.    “We are extremely proud and honored to have been selected by the US Army as the provider of this critical positioning device for the safety of US warfighters. Dassault sets sights on supplying 200 Rafale jets to India over next decade

French aircraft maker Dassault Aviation on Wednesday said the Indian order for 36 Rafale fighters was a “bit small,” hoping it would swell to around 200 warplanes over the next decade. The firm has factored in an upcoming naval aviation programme to arrive at the figure. Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier said a bigger order would ensure that transfer of technology was meatier and also position the country as a high-end manufacturing hub under the Make in India initiative. India plans to induct some 400 warplanes during the next 10 years to sharpen its military edge. “Thirty six is a good number to start with but we need to build on that foundation. It is not big enough for transfer of technology,” Trappier told a select group of journalists at Aero India-2017. “We are pushing for more orders. We are aware of the Indian military’s requirements and additional orders could come.” India and France signed the $8.7-billion Rafale deal on September 23, 2016. The jets, equipped with latest weapons and tailored for Indian needs, will be delivered between 2019 and 2022. Indian Air Force fighter pilots and technicians will head to France in 2018 to train on the Rafale. The IAF has also cautioned that the 36 fighters are not enough to check the erosion of its IAF’s strength. Trappier said Rafale was a strong competitor for an Indian programme to build twin-engine fighters in the country. He said Dassault would also compete with global rivals for an order to supply 57 carrier-borne fighters to Indian Navy.   “It makes better sense to equip the IAF and the navy with the same platform as it means good logistics, maintenance and industrial support,” he said. US aerospace giant Boeing will also compete for the naval programme with its F-18 Super Hornet. The IAF’s Rafale fighters will be equipped with European missile maker MBDA’s Meteor beyond visual range missiles. MBDA CEO Antoine Bouvier told HT the missile’s no-escape zone was three to four times greater than other missiles. MBDA has formed a joint venture with Larsen & Toubro to take part in upcoming missile programmes under the Make in India plan. “This is MBDA’s first JV outside Europe. We are willing to transfer most sensitive missile technologies,” Bouvier said. Dassault Aviation has forged a joint venture with billionaire Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence for carrying out its offset obligations bundled with the Rafale deal. Ambani flew in a Rafale fighter at the airshow, pulling 6G (experiencing six times the force of gravity) during the 35-minute sortie. Mr Alexandre Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India, conferred the high French distinction, Officier de l’Ordre national du Mérite (Officer of the National Order of Merit) on Dr. Shailesh Ayyangar, Managing Director - India and Vice President - South Asia, Sanofi, on Tuesday, 15th November 2016. The honour comes in recognition of his outstanding contribution and dedication to promoting public health, particularly amongst children and diabetics, and turning scientific innovations into therapeutic solutions. Dr Shailesh Ayyangar Dr Shailesh Ayyangar , born on 15th October 1954, is the Managing Director - India and Vice President - South Asia, Sanofi (Global healthcare leader present in India since 1956) and President - Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI), unanimously elected for four consecutive years since 2013. A graduate in Veterinary Science, Dr Ayyangar holds a Post-graduate Degree in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In his career spanning over three decades, he has gathered wide-ranging experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In April 2002 he joined Sanofi as Managing Director, which was further extended to the combined Company Sanofi-Aventis, in 2005. In 2010, he was assigned additional responsibilities for Sanofi’s South Asia Zone comprising Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. In 2014, Dr Ayyangar was listed among ‘India’s Best CEOs’ in Mid-Sized Companies category by Business India magazine, and in 2013, he was recognized as ‘Most Valuable CEO’ in Mid-Sized Companies category by Business World magazine. The MoU was signed by Mr. Bruno Durand, Vice President for Industrial Operations & Supply Chain of Snecma and Mr. Arunachalam Muthukumaraswami, General Manager of the Engine Division of HAL.   The proposed joint venture will initially focus on the manufacture of high-tech parts for the Dassault Rafale’s Snecma M88 engine, then subsequently contribute to other major aerospace projects of HAL & Snecma, in India and worldwide. Spanning over 30,000 square meters, the proposed joint venture’s new plant is expected to benefit from substantial investment by the two partners, providing it with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment.   This agreement marks a major step forward in the long-standing collaboration between Snecma and HAL. The proposed joint venture will further broaden the scope of the excellent relations established over the past 60 years between Safran affiliates and the Indian aerospace industry*. Thales and Bharat Electronics form joint venture firm in India

Bharat Electronics (BEL) and French technology firm Thales on Tuesday announced that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs had approved the incorporation of their joint venture company, BEL-Thales Systems Limited. The joint venture (JV) company will primarily focus on the design, development, marketing, supply and support of civilian and select defence radars for Indian and the global markets . The initial product portfolio of BEL-Thales Systems will comprise innovative solutions for air surveillance, including air traffic management radars, and select ground-based military radars. The ultimate objective of the JV is to expand its scope to fields other than radars in the defence electronics domain. BEL holds a 74% stake while Thales holds 26% of the equity in the JV company
