Global sporting retailer, Decathlon, opens 1st store at Battaramulla

Opening up a whole new world of sports innovation for Sri Lanka, Decathlon Sri Lanka has launched its first store at Battaramulla on 13 th October 2018, located at 260/1, Pannipitiya Road, Battaramulla, prominently located beside the Buddhadasa ground. Demonstrating its passion for sports, Decathlon’s store offers a unique sport store concept that showcases 2500 products catering to 50 sports, coupled with a distinctive and personalised customer service. The store is spread across 1200 m 2  space dedicated for sports to allow shoppers and sports lovers to browse the store at leisure. India’s growth picture is as clear as glass for Saint Gobain

Saint Gobain, the French maker of plasterboard and glass, is betting big on the Indian market and is aiming to triple revenues in the next ten years to ₹20,000 crore, its chairman said. “India is one of the fastest growing countries for Saint Gobain. India is the number one country for us — even more than China,” Pierre-Andre De Chalendar , chairman of the Saint-Gobain Group, told ET in an interview recently. About €130 million, or 10% of Saint Gobain’s investment capex, find their way into India that contributes only 2% of its sales. The share of India in total manufacturing is around 4%, he added. The last three years have seen the French company plough back all the profits it made in India to grow its business here. Chalendar is encouraged by the proactive reforms undertaken by the Indian government. “There has been a progressive reduction in bureaucracy. The tax reforms of last summer have been good. So, I am positive about the economic climate in India. It’s improving and I am confident that it will continue to improve.” Saint Gobain was set up in France in 1665, and made glass for the French King Louis XIV. Over the years, capital expenditure for growth in the country has been the highest in all the countries that it has businesses in, amounting to around $100 million in the last few years. “Most of our investments in India have been funded by our existing company in India. It is a sign of the strength of our Indian business. So, we plough back all our profits in India. We haven’t sent money out of India for the last few years now. The cash that we generate, we invest back,” Chalendar added. In India, its biggest investment is in the glass business. It is the market leader in making glass for buildings, automotive windshields etc, and value-added glass like coated glass. The other business is gypsum plasterboard which is in the materials space and abrasives, refractories, high-performance plastics etc. “It is a sign of the strength of our Indian business,” Anand Mahajan, chairman of Saint Gobain Group in India, told ET in the same interview. Mahajan has been steering the group since its inception in India and leads a wholly Indian team in a French company, a fact that Chalendar takes pride in while talking about the glassmaker’s key successes in India. What gives Chalendar the confidence to bet on India is the rising demand that the company is seeing from its glassmaking segment.   BIC Cello to set-up Rs 210 crore facility in Gujarat   Writing instruments firm BIC Cello today said it is setting up its largest manufacturing unit at Vapi, Gujarat , at an investment of Rs 210 crore. The new unit, which will become operational by end of 2018, will manufacture 400 million units of pens. "Post completion of phase I in 2018, the new manufacturing unit in Vapi will produce over 400 million units of ball point pens and gel pens every year," it said in a statement issued here. Currently, the company has eight plants operational in India , of which seven are located in Daman and one in Haridwar, Uttarakhand . These factories manufacture about 1.3 billion units of writing instruments per year. "We at BIC Cello have an ambitious plan for India and are excited to locate the largest stationery manufacturing facility in Asia in Gujarat.       TAMI Industries’ ceramic membranes are renowned in the field of membrane separation processes for their durability and extreme efficiency   Specially adapted for the food processing, pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries.       The use of ceramic membranes has increased in popularity over recent years in the various industrial separation processes currently available on the market. Their characteristics of high mechanical resistance, durability and ease of use have contributed significantly to this increased popularity.       Although representing only 10% of the global market, in very many applications ceramic membranes are challenging organic membranes. The main advantages they offer being greater durability, significant chemical stability, complete temperature independence and improved mechanical resistance to pressure. Compared to circular channels, non-circular channels provide a larger filtration surface for the same external volume of the membrane thus ensuring improved filtration performance as well as increased turbulence and reduced fouling.       The original shapes of the ceramic membranes designed by TAMI Industries means they are more compact (patents on non-circular channels), which increases permeability and offers a wide choice of cut-off thresholds - Microfiltration, Ultrafiltration and Fine Ultrafiltration (patents on the layers), high mechanical resistance (patent on the base materials), significant chemical stability (pH range from 0 to 14), high heat resistance (up to 300 °C ), low risk of fouling, reliability and durability (an average useful life 3 to 4 times longer than their organic competitors).       The external dimensions of TAMI Industries’ ceramic membranes are compatible with all existing equipment and facilities on the market that use ceramic membranes. This functionality means that renovating industrial infrastructures is simple, only the ceramic membranes need to be replaced (process known as RETROFIT).       As a result of this R&D investment it is now possible to offer membranes with the best filtration surface /external volume ratio of the membrane associated with control over the shaping of the membrane’s materials, thus allowing very narrow distributions of the pore diameters and a more uniform performance. French company Suez helps south Delhi colony get drinking water from taps.

In a first, south Delhi colony gets drinking water from taps The inauguration of the scheme saw Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti and Mishra underline the initiative’s importance in bringing Delhi closer to developed countries. On Sunday afternoon, a residential colony in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar became the first area in the capital to get 24×7 access to potable water from taps. The flagship project is aimed at benefitting 1,900 people in the area and will be implemented in other parts of Delhi soon. Done under a public-private partnership with French company Suez, the scheme was implemented by isolating Navjeevan Vihar hydraulically and following the “calculation of losses”, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials said. The supply of potable water at the colony, officials said, is from the Malviya Nagar underground reservoir command area, which provides water to around 4.5 lakh people in south Delhi.   “The project will help 340 families. Consumers will be able to get drinking water directly through taps by closing the inlet of the overhead tanks. As part of the project, a leak detection mechanism has also been put in place, and losses at household levels, checked,” said DJB chairperson Kapil Mishra. DJB officials said that three exercises had to be conducted in order to ensure uninterrupted high-quality water supply. “House service connection levels needed to be changed, overhead and underground tanks needed to be bypassed and a high-end leakage detection system had to be formulated,” a senior DJB official said. Mishra added, “This initiative will help consumers save water from leakages and overflow. It would also help people save money as water bills will get less expensive. It will also end people’s dependency on water purifiers. No water pumps will also be required and hence power consumption will be reduced.” The inauguration of the scheme saw Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti and Mishra underline the initiative’s importance in bringing Delhi closer to developed countries. Stating that while the pilot project might look like a “small step”, Mishra said the scheme will be replicated in other parts of the capital, which has already been divided into 1,010 units. For residents, it is a dream come true. “In this society, we have seen a lot — from laying down of water pipes to bad performance of overhead tanks and shortage of water and milk. Having gone through that, to get water supply 24×7 seems like a dream.   High level discussion on “ Next Generation of Infection Prevention” within the framework of the “Make in India” program   Business France has successfully organized two interactive sessions for the French company Schülke, 100% subsidiary of Air Liquide Group on “ Next Generation of Infection Prevention”. The seminar was held in the presence of H.E Mr Alexander ZIEGLER, Ambassador of France in India at the Residence of France in New Delhi on Tuesday, on 27 th September and the second one was held at the hotel Taj Coromandel, Chennai on 29th September with the participation of the Consul General of France in Pondicherry.   This event shaped an Indo-French discussion & created awareness on important topics; nosocomial infections, health care guidelines, desired standards of hospital hygiene & infection control and efficiency & application of next generation products.   The discussion also highlighted french creativity via the launch of innovative products in the area of healthcare by Schülke and celebrated the success of their flagship brand Microshield, a product which is well known among healthcare professionals in India and has been in existence for 25 years.
