The Maison Gagnerot was founded in 1802. In 1864, Marie, the only daughter of Jean--Baptiste, married François Capitain, a wine-merchant from Champlitte. Jean-Baptiste and François became partners, and founded the Maison Capitain-Gagnerot.
At the time of the phylloxera epidemic, Marie, then a widow, decided to keep the domaine and to replant the vines.
The domaine was then passed on from father to son, and after the Second World War, Roger Capitain inherited 3 ha of vines and a wine-merchant company.
With his charisma, Roger Capitain poured all his energy not only into making his business prosper, but also into actively supporting viticulture in Burgundy. From 1977 to 1989, he was president of the Union of wine growers in Ladoix-Sérrigny, and fought to obtain the LADOIX appellation.

He passed his passion on to his two sons, Patrice and Michel, who took over the running of the company. Both have forged their own roles, each bringing their different and complementary skills.
PATRICE is in charge of the vines and their vinification, while MICHEL takes care of marketing.

The GFA François Capitain et fils now owns more than 16 ha of vineyard, and the company only sells wines from the domaine.
