Dominique Léandre-Chevalier has been living true to his conviction for over 20 years. He is passionate about his vineyards and nurtures them whilst respecting nature. His calling is quite literally that of a wine-grower.

The character of the wine is decided in the vineyard.
Dominique accompanies nature’s work all year round, intervening only where it is absolutely necessary and then as carefully as possible.
His horse is and remains his constant companion for working the soil.
His apprenticeship with the “compagnons du tour de France”, (a French organisation of travelling craftsmen and artisans with an outstanding quality guarantee in France) taught him the value of good workmanship. His ancestors were winegrowers, waggoners and tree nursery owners. The meaning of his family name refers to the waggoners.
Far from all business trends and in keeping with his ancestors’ values and know-how, Dominique is absolutely convinced that this way of working will bring a valuable and original result on a sustained basis.

The vineyards at Château Le Queyroux are unusual:
Seven tracts and just as many diverse soils can be found on just 3 hectares. Some are planted with 11,111 and some with even 33,333 vines per ha! Increasing the number of vines results in less grapes growing per vine. The results are overwhelming as the aromas are highly concentrated.

Circular planting is even more unusual – in fact unique in France.
His grape variety, Petit Verdot, is non-grafted as it survived the phylloxera plague on the family vineyards and is planted with 33,333 vines per hectare in the provignage method. The vine is transplanted 30cm each year, extending the rooting system and each vine produces just one bunch of grapes per year. Prime quality!

The basic ingredient: the grape is of capital importance for an excellent wine.
The harvest is planned to perfection, just like every procedure on the estate. The grapes are hand-picked when they are perfectly ripe and carefully transported to the winery in special, flat baskets to avoid any damage, ensuring they arrive in the winery in perfect order for the real hand selection process.

Dominique Léandre-Chevalier’s range of wines is especially expressive, which really conveys this exceptional winegrower‘s love and passion for his vocation.
