With the Global Crisis being Experienced, France does not lose Sight of Success

Sarah Benyoub - 03-juin-2020 14:59:30
With the Global Crisis being Experienced, France does not lose Sight of Success Business France announces Record High Investments and Jobs Generated in 2019’s annual Foreign Invest in France Report o    International investment in France last year reached a record high thanks to an annual investment increase of 11 per cent and nearly 40,000 jobs being created or maintained. o    France was the leading European destination for industrial investment projects whereby production and manufacturing activities are the leading contributors to employment.   United Arab Emirates: June 3 rd , 2020: Business France, the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy, has released its Foreign Investment Report for 2019 highlighting how France, has once again become the country to which international investors turn to for international investments, attracting 1,468 new foreign investment decisions in 2019, an 11 per cent increase since 2018. Jobs created or maintained by foreign subsidiary investments also picked up significantly, growing by 30 per cent to 39,542 jobs created and 4,778 jobs maintained in 2019.   Prior to the crisis, France boasted a number of key strengths including growth which was above the euro zone average, more than 500,000 jobs had been created in two years, and business investment was at an all-time high and acted quickly and decisively to safeguard these key strengths. France then attracted 19% of investment projects in the European market . Foreign investment in Europe was mainly focused on business services (42%) and industry (23%); being the leading European destination for industrial investment projects, home to 26% of manufacturing investments. France was also the leading European destination for R&D investment .   The business creation rate reached a new record in 2019 with 815,300 businesses (including 428,900 microenterprises) created in France, 18 per cent more than in 2018. The number of business failures has fallen sharply since July 2016, symbolizing the strength of, and the confidence in, the French economy, as well as the improvement in France’s attractiveness. France’s attractiveness has remained high with 87 per cent of executives abroad (including business leaders from the Middle East) considering France to be attractive, which saw a 13-point increase on 2016, according to Kantar-Business France survey.   In this changing environment, the French economy’s resilience and the “pro-business” reforms that have been undertaken by the French government have strengthened foreign investors’ confidence. However, the outstanding results from the 2019 Annual Report on Foreign Investment have been published in 2020 in unprecedented circumstances, with the global economy now facing the most serious health, social, economic and financial crisis of recent decades.   MIDDLE EAST   In 2019, 8 new job-creating investment decisions were made in France by companies from countries in the Middle East region, creating or maintaining more than 200 jobs . These investments came from the United Arab Emirates (4 projects), Kuwait (2), Saudi Arabia (1) and Lebanon (1). Most of these projects involved production/manufacturing facilities (5 projects; 84 jobs) and logistics (2 projects; 110 jobs). Investments by Middle East countries were made in a variety of different sectors, with 2 projects in the transport/storage sector responsible for more than half of the jobs generated by Middle Eastern investment.   Projects from the region:   o    DP World has invested in Le Havre (Normandie region) in the construction and operation of a container terminal through a joint venture with the transport company CMA CGM . This €154 million investment, nearly half of which comes from the investor and the Normandie region, will generate 200 jobs . o    Sahul Group has set up a high-end mobile phone manufacturing site. The initial investment will be approximatively €35 million and should generate around thirty jobs . o    In partnership with the IFP New Energies group, the Saudi company Aramco is investing €2 million in the creation of an R&D centre to strengthen Saudi technological capacities in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors. This €2 million investment will create 10 jobs , with roles comprising mainly engineers and researchers. o    The Kuwaiti leader in logistics , Agility is creating a 26,000 sq. m. multimodal platform in Blotzheim (Grand Est region). This €5 million investment will create 10 jobs in 2020 in addition to the 20 roles that already exist . Frederic Szabo, Managing Director, Business France Middle East commented : “In the coming years, France will continue to promote investment from foreign businesses across our regions so that they can create jobs, make the most of our talent and participate in the construction of this new French economy .”   Amine Chaehoi, Director Inward Investments, Business France Middle East added : “We are delighted to highlight the contribution made by Middle Eastern companies to the French economy. From an overall perspective, there are currently more than 500 companies from the region established in our country, employing 30,000 personnel for an FDI Stock of €9.7 Billion (Banque de France). We are committed to build bridges between Middle East and France, support business setting up and provide key investment opportunities”.   COVID-19   The substantial and immediate support measures of the French Government helped cushion the shock of the crisis. They were effective, ranging from short-time working, which protected more than 12 million workers, loans guaranteed by the state, which enabled businesses to avoid bankruptcy due to cashflow problems, and help for nearly 2 million businesses from the solidarity fund.   “We have protected the economy; we must now support its recovery. It will be slow and gradual, and it will be particularly difficult for sectors which have been severely weakened by the health crisis, such as tourism, aeronautics, and the automobile. We will protect, support, and revive soon. In the coming years, France will continue to encourage investments by foreign companies in all regions so that they can create value, jobs, develop talent and participate in the construction of this new French economy while benefiting investors”, remarked Frederic Szabo, Managing Director, Business France Middle East .   -END -   Note to Editors:   The 2019 Report highlights France’s newfound attractiveness which is credited to the country’s ambitious transformation since 2017, including reforming the labour market, reducing capital taxation, lowering corporate tax, helping SMEs to grow with the help of the PACTE Act (Action Plan for Business Growth & Transformation), and investing greatly in innovation.   Foreign investments were received from 58 different countries in 2019, with European investments continuing to hold the upper hand: 64 per cent of job-creating foreign investments in France originated in other European countries , followed by North America (20 per cent) and Asia (11 per cent).   In terms of the number of foreign investments and jobs generated by foreign investors in France, 2019 was an outstanding year. However, a global economic slowdown, doubts about the future of the European Union following Brexit, trade tensions between China and the United States, as well as a return to protectionist policies in some parts of the world were all questions that remained unanswered last year.   Brexit has led to a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude being adopted by foreign investors, particularly those from emerging economies that had until now overwhelmingly chosen the United Kingdom as a European export hub. Since 2016, the United Kingdom’s investment attractiveness has therefore declined accordingly. As a direct result, in 2019 far more foreign executives (64 per cent, or six points more than in 2018) were expecting businesses from their respective countries to swap setting up in the United Kingdom for another European country. France was the second European country expected to benefit from this (40 per cent, up three points) after Germany.   ABOUT BUSINESS FRANCE: Business France is the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy, responsible for fostering export growth by French businesses, as well as promoting and facilitating international investment in France. WORLD NUCLEAR EXHIBITION 2020

YASMINA OUARI - 02-févr.-2020 09:44:02
The World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE), the international trade fair for the civil nuclear sector, once again will bring together professionals from all parts of the industry to do business from Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 June at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre (Hall 7). Organized by Reed Expositions France on behalf of GIFEN, the French Nuclear Industry Association, and now in its fourth edition, WNE has adopted a topical theme for 2020: “The nuclear industry, a key partner for a low-carbon society”.     Organised every two years in France, WNE has become the essential meeting place for professionals from around the world to do business and discuss major issues and challenges facing the industry.   At the heart of WNE is innovation and it offers exhibitors of all sizes (large groups, mid-caps, SMEs and startups) rich opportunities to cement strategic partnerhips and sign new contracts.   Projected figures for 2020   • 730 exhibitors and 23,000 attendees from 62 countries • 16 national pavilions • 4,500 business meetings • 1,500 senior international decision-makers and numerous official delegations     The nuclear industry, a key partner for a low-carbon society   The issue of energy transition is at the heart of political, economic and societal debate as we move toward carbon neutrality by 2050. Faced with the global climate emergency, many countries are seeking to establish the fundamentals of a new energy model, based on a reduction of fossil fuel use. Nuclear is one of the keys to the transition to a sustainable future energy mix. World Nuclear Exhibition has chosen to address these major concerns with the theme of its 2020 edition: “The nuclear industry, a key partner for a low-carbon society.”  Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, new President of WNE, states:  “I am convinced that nuclear power has a crucial role to play in the energy  transition if we are to reach our goal of a low-carbon economy.”        New for 2020    • One day (25 June) has been designated Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and Advanced Reactor Day and will focus on the various projects around the world dedicated to these small nuclear reactors (50-300 MW). Smaller than conventional nuclear power plants, they are viewed as a viable replacement for obsolete fossil fuel power plants that meet the need for low-carbon energy. On SMR and Advanced Reactor Day, WNE will welcome many international official delegations, affording them a unique forum to address the challenges and opportunities associated with the use of SMR technologies and advanced reactors in the energy systems of the future.     • WNE introduces an honorary award, the WNE Fellow Award, to recognise an international expert in the nuclear sector for their contribution to the promotion of nuclear energy worldwide.   Three intense days of business meetings, discussions and a lot of innovation • WNE will once again promote innovation with the WNE Awards. Eight prizes in four categories will be awarded at a ceremony on the first day of the show. The categories are: Products and Services Innovation; Nuclear Safety Innovation; Operation Excellence Innovation and Knowledge Management and Skills Innovation. As in 2018, each category will have two prizes, one for large groups and one for small and very small enterprises (SMEs/VSEs).   • The 2020 exhibition will also provide an opportunity to discover the essential WNE, including the Startup Planet, guided tours, Investors’ Day, exhibitors’ workshops and panel discussions.     An international dimension   WNE has an established international dimension with the leaders and key players in the global market in attendance. International exhibitors will make up 40% of the stands at the 2020 show, coming from 40 countries including Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and United States. WNE will welcome the Czech Republic and Ukraine as newcomers at this edition of the show.    16 national pavilions are expected, including Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Japan, Poland, Romania, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, United States and Wales, as well as 1,500 senior international decision-makers representing governments, institutions, major buyers etc, plus many other official delegations.   More business opportunities   WNE in 2020 will more than ever be a business accelerator for the industry, with 4,500 business meetings expected over the three days (compared with 4,000 in 2018). Aimed at exhibiting companies (SMEs, mid-caps and large groups), these meetings are a fantastic platform for discussions, sharing of experience, new partnerships and contracts between suppliers and major global contractors.    Building on its previous successes, WNE 2020 will once again bring together the entire global community of the civil nuclear industry: senior international decision-makers, official delegations, scientific experts, engineers, technicians, startups and the media.  ABOUT GIFEN: www.gifen.fr   GIFEN is a professional trade union, gathering approximately 190 actors from the french nuclear industry, with the aim of facilitating and nurturing the relations between the world’s civil nuclear actors and of furthering an international culture. To achieve this purpose, GIFEN believes in the WNE (World Nuclear Exhibition) and as owner GIFEN intents to develop it . The WNE is an opportunity for all the global actors to finally meet for 3 days and participate in unprecedented meetings with experts of international renown. It is also an event with opportunities to develop its network and to exchange on strategic topics, during which the leaders and decision makers of the sector will be able to share their visions and their objectives.
