Jean-luc Thunevin

Jean-Luc Thunevin became a “star” in the wine sphere in less than a decade thanks to his world famous “Garage Wine” Château Valandraud.

It is probably after tasting Le Pin – which is produced from a minute vineyard in Pomerol, that his desire to create an exceptional wine began. Thanks to his passion for wine, his willpower and determination, he fulfilled his dream in 1991 with the first vintage of Château Valandraud. That year was the start of a incredible adventure and dazzling success.

He became the inspiration and initiator of many other garage wines around Bordeaux and around the world. All these micro cuvees, work on their vineyard to lower the yields and produce the ripest fruits possible. His wife Murielle personally supervises the care of the vineyards: pruning adapted to each vine, systematic thinning, green harvest to purposely limit the number of bunches on the vine.

On his side, Jean-Luc looks for the optimal ripeness of the grapes before starting the harvest; he also adopted techniques from Burgundy like punching of the cap and stirring of the lies to get optimal concentration. The wines are produced in a spirit of constant improvement and excellence.

Through years of passionate work, Jean-Luc Thunevin developped techniques and a know-how which he now puts to the service of many properties including : Château Fleur Cardinale (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé), Château Haut-Mazeris (Fronsac et Canon Fronsac), Château de Carles (Fronsac), Domaine Thunevin-Calvet (Côtes du Roussillon Villages), Château Sansonnet (Saint Emilion Grand Cru). He used to be a consultant to Château La Dominique (Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé), Branon (Graves), Marojallia (Margaux)

He recently bought Château Bellevue de Tayac, in Margaux appellation as well as Le Clos du Beau Père (Pomerol) and Domaine des Sabines (Lalande de Pomerol). Jean-Luc Thunevin sells his wines around the world through his wholesale wine company located in the heart of Saint Emilion
