Founded in 1847 in Cholet (a city located in the south of the Loire valley region – north west part of France -that specializes in the weaving and manufacturing of home linen since the 17th century) by a creative and visionary young entrepreneur Mr Alexandre Turpault.

Since the origin, the company specializes in high end bed and table linens made of pure flax fibre (also called “linen” ) and flax/cotton mix. Flax fibre comes from a textile plant that has been grown in this area (as well as Brittany, Normandy and Flanders) since the middle age. For centuries, and before cotton became the most popular fibre at the end of 19th century, the majority of bed and table linens were made of flax, or hemp…
The main idea of Alexander Turpault was to create large workshops and to gather hired specialized workforce (such as dyers, weavers, sewers, embroiderers, etc…) in a single manufacturing place. He was the first to bring in mechanization with weaving machines activated with steam energy. Later on, foreseeing the development of modern trade, he helped his best friend Aristide Boucicaut to set up one of the first department stores in Paris, the still existing and world wide famous Paris left bank “BON MARCHE” and created the first home textile big scale promotion in the history, called “the month of white” taking place in January every year since then.
Turpault rips all the medals and awards in the fine linens catégories at the EXPOSITISION UNIVERSELLES in Paris in 1889.
By the turn of the 20th century, the company was employing more than 3000 people and was providing the booming French market with the best of French fine linens. In the Thirties, embodying the highest achievement in French design and craftsmanship, the famous liner “Normandy” was equipped with home linens entirely made by Alexandre Turpault.

Today, after a change in ownership in 1999, this family business has passed to another family run company , the Vanderschooten group (based in the Lys valley, nearby Lille – Northern France) that boast also a rich textile and industrial culture.
Alexander Turpault collection is distributed in France and abroad (Europe, Americas, Middle East and Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore) on as selective basis that include high end retailers, department stores, interior designers and boutique hotels.
AT has been working on private contract (residential, super yacht or private jets…) since its origin (jets being the most recent addition ) and is proud to provide VIP customers with its best products and service starting with the French presidency, the royal family of Marocco, the Royal household of Bahrein, Quatar and UAE…But it also includes famous actors, singers and artists (Sting, Blue… Catherine Deneuve, Natalie Baye, Audrey Tautou, Demi Moore…)
For the British ambassy in Tokyo, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Dunhill brand we mastered a 3x11 meter long tablecloth with matching runners, placemat and napkins in a beautiful palette of pink to aubergine, for a 30 people dining table… Alexandre Turpault is also to be found in private jets contracts (Jet aviation Basel, Boutsen Aviation) as well as in Super yacht contracts (Fraser Yacht, The Yacht boutique, White Linens NZ).
