SCEA BONTOUX BODIN PERE ET FILS

Emile Bodin was born on November 6, 1881 in Marseille. In 1883, a serious cholera epidemic forces the family to leave Marseille for Cassis. They settle in the family country house which will become the famous « Calendal » farmhouse.
At 13 years old, Emile Bodin, who has lost both parents, is raised by his aunt. At 18 years old, genuinely self-taught, he begins to renovate the adjoining vineyard which, as everywhere in France, has been devastated by the phylloxera.

In 1901, with his friend Albert Savon, he uses specific plants brought back from Texas for grafting, because of their roots that resist to this parasitic aphid. That way, they become the pioneers of a different wine, dry and mineral, taking full opportunity of the clayey and limestone soil of Cassis, famous until then for his Muscat. in Provence, Emile Bodin is the first to sell wine in bottles. The brand “BODIN” is then registered and recognized worldwide.

In 1918, the property is expanded with the acquisition of the Fontlanche Castle.
Truly environmentalist, in the very highest sense, botanist "madly in love with Cassis", he is also a member of the Fébrilige (a school of literature that restored the provençal language)
