Phytolab is a landscape architecture and environment agency run by Loïc Mareschal and Frédéric Fourreau. Based in Nantes, France, since 1993, it has a staff of around fifteen people with a variety of experience and skills, including landscape architects, urban planners, architects, naturalists, ecologists and designers.
The fact that the team includes botanists and ecologists gives the agency the ability to work on all environment types, particularly river and coastal shorelines, wetlands or complex architectural or urban projects.
The wide range of specialities among employees enables a rich interaction within the team, as well as considerable opportunity for cross-referencing. Our creative and technical horizon covers a great diversity of landscape and project types. We have had the opportunity to work in many different environments and contexts, from the urban (capital cities, regional or border towns), to the coastal and rural (coastlines of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean).
Resolutely focused on the operational side of a project, we first study the scenery of the site and emphasize a practical, sensorial and empathetic approach. Our work is based on the intrinsic qualities of a site, its origins and its potential as well as its perception and use.
Our projects to date include the integration of infrastructures such as a tramway line or an urban motorway, transforming them into more peaceful boulevards. We have also worked on the enhancement of coastal areas and cities, as well as ecological programming and management and the rengeneration of industrial or deteriorated coastline sites. Further projects include urban parks, new neighbourhoods, squares, streets and sites of national heritage.
Our extensive experience in landscape design and development, as well as ecological and functional improvement in areas submitted to urban, industrial or ecological changes, has gained recognition. For more than 15 years, the quality of the developments Phytolab has been involved in has resulted in many awards at international, European, national and local levels.
The regularity of these awards is a sure sign of our ability to design and achieve quality spaces that meet key development issues as well as users’ needs and expectations.
