The story of Coutellerie Ceccaldi begins in the village of Zoza, in the south of Corsica, where Paul Santoni, one of the last remaining islanders who were privy to the secrets of Corsican knife-making, passed on his passion for knives to Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi. Driven by a desire to work with his hands and to improve his skills so that he could give free rein to his creativity, Jean-Pierre and his wife, Dany, set up their first workshop in the family home. This passion and his perseverance helped him acquire the skill widely recognized today.
Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi began making the traditional Corsican knife, the « curnicciulu », and over the years expanded his production to offer a comprehensive range of knives from traditional knives, like the « vendetta », to table knives, special pieces, kitchen knives, and pocket knives. These products are designed following the same traditional high standards : quality, authenticity and creativity.
To meet the increasing demand, the Ceccaldi family moved its workshop to Porticcio, on the south shore of the gulf of Ajaccio. With a larger and better-equipped workshop, the family was able to hire new workers and train them in the art of cutlery. And to this day, it is in this workshop that the company's knives are made by hand with the same passion.
Today, the Ceccaldi sons, Sylvestre and Simon, are continuing this tradition with a new perspective on cutlery, that is both contemporary and respectful of its heritage and origins. This new, innovating and creative generation allows the company to continue evolving with the times.
Today, Coutellerie Ceccaldi has five shops in Porticcio, Bonifacio, Corte, Sartène and Paris, with their own repair and sharpening workshop to meet one of our commitments : lifetime warranty. All our knives are signed and covered by this warranty ; and with each creation, Coutellerie Ceccaldi upholds its reputation for excellence.
Coutellerie Ceccaldi is now officially recognized as an « Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) » (Living Heritage Company). Awarded by the government, this designation was set up to distinguish French companies with remarkable tradition and industrial excellence.
Our vision for knives has not changed since our first creations in 1978 : a knife is an object for everyday life, both useful and beautiful ; it is a tool that magnifies everyday life. The clean lines and the high quality of the materials used give these knives character and authenticity.
Jean-Pierre Ceccaldi began his training at Sollacaro in the south of Corsica with Mr Paul Santoni, one of the last persons on the island to have this unique knowledge. After training for several months as a cutler, Jean-Pierre set up his own workshop to improve his skills and give full rein to his creativity. Thus, it is partly as a self-taught craftsman that he began his career, but his passion and perseverance allowed him to acquire a skill that is now widely recognized.
Simon Ceccaldi began his training with his father before leaving in search of different skill sets with such renowned cutlers as Franck Thomas and Henri Viallon. To broaden his skills, he also trained with the Atelier des meilleurs ouvriers de France, at Saint Etienne, where he learned basic techniques in jewellery, design, and engraving.
