The introduction of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into urban territories paves the way for new functionalities and new ways of managing, governing and experiencing cities. Today, projects are emerging in France which demonstrate the interest cities have in these new systems. But they are also proof of the dynamism and expertise that French companies have developed in recent years. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a booklet in partnership with the association of France’s large cities’ mayors, presenting innovating projects led by French cities, accompanied by French companies of all sizes and all sectors. VIVAPOLIS is the collective brand that federates and promotes the French public and private players in the field of sustainable cities. www.vivapolis.com firstname.lastname@example.org DOWNLOAD BOOKLET BELOW

The web portal French-rail-industry was launched in 2014 to promote France’s know-how in the railways sector, thanks to a partnership agreement between Business France, the French export-support agency, and Fer de France, the interprofessional Association for France’s railway industry. French-rail-industry aims to meet a double objective. First, it helps to raise awareness among industry professionals worldwide of the know-how prevalent in France’s railway sector — a widely acknowledged and greatly praised centre of excellence. Secondly, French-rail-industry helps to establish connections between international buyers and French suppliers. The directory of French players in the railway sector, makes it easy for potential customers based outside France to browse the profiles of any French company they choose and contact them directly through a messaging interface integrated into the website. The French suppliers featured on the platform are broken down into eight main categories: embedded electronic systems; mechanical components fitted on rolling stock; passenger-information and ticketing systems; passenger public transport; rail-car layout; railway infrastructure; railway testing and engineering; and, finally, rolling stock. Thanks to the expertise, technological skills and innovative ability of its companies, France’s railway industry enjoys international recognition: the country is ranked third worldwide in the sector. Within Europe, the French railway industry is ranked second only to Germany, with 1,500 companies generating over €4 billion, i.e. 25% of the country’s exports in value. Trophies for Climate Solutions An increasing number of businesses are committed to production, construction, development and operations models that have less impact on resources and the climate. Innovative solutions in terms of reducing energy consumption, cutting greenhouse gases and safeguarding resources already exist. With a view to highlighting them, the ADEME (French Environment and Management Agency), C3D (Collège des Directeurs du Développement Durable), Crédit Coopératif, Orée Association (Business and Local Areas), Solutions COP21, Shift Project and World Efficiency have launched the first Trophies for Climate Solutions. Certified by the COP21 "solutions agenda", the purpose of the trophies is to recognise the best climate change attenuation and/or adaptation solutions and give these initiatives a standard-setting value for other businesses looking to take action in these areas. The Trophies will be officially awarded on 2 December 2015 at the “Galerie des Solutions” expo held at Le Bourget Exhibition Centre by World Efficiency during COP21 . The winners will receive exposure on 4 December at the Winners Conference as part of the COP21 Solutions event at the Grand Palais in Paris. THE SOLUTIONS GALLERY : From 2nd to 9th December in the Museum of Air and Space at Le Bourget, France The Paris Climate Conference 2015 (COP21) this December is intended to result in an international climate agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol. This agreement must be capable of driving forward the reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions so as to restrict the rise in the Earth’s mean temperature by the end of the century to 2°C above the pre-industrial level. Against this background, Reed Expositions France has been working with the General Secretariat of COP21 to organize the Solutions Gallery from 2nd to 9th December in the Museum of Air and Space at Le Bourget. Intended to support the diplomatic negotiations, the Gallery will be an exhibition of low carbon solutions exclusively reserved for professionals, and its mission will be to demonstrate that solutions do exist and to accelerate their market uptake. Occupying an area of 10,000 m2, running for seven days, and accessible from the Blue Zone (COP negotiations zone), the Solutions Gallery will present innovative solutions developed and applied by companies, industries or territories that are designed to reduce the impact of economic activities on the climate: equipment, technologies, new models of organization and reproducible best practices… Over twenty countries will be represented including: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark , Germany, Israel, Japan, Morocco, Norway, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom,… More specifically, the Ivory Coast, one of the African countries most committed to climate questions, will have a strong presence through a stand presenting initiatives and projects in the country, a broadcast from the TV studio, and visits by numerous officials from the country. As host country, what France has to offer will take pride of place in a dedicated space at the heart of the exhibition. It is therefore planned to demonstrate solutions – including clean vehicles in a dedicated outdoor space – and to stage special events, such as themed days that are integrated into the schedule of COP21, broadcasts and interviews with companies in a TV studio (eg. daily transport programme with Fer de France), guided tours and site visits for UN delegations. Other highlights will be prestige events such as networking sessions in a dedicated lounge, business lunches, VIP receptions in the heart of Paris… It will also host the official awards ceremonies for two sets of awards. The first Climate Solutions Awards, which will carry the COP21 label. Organized by Orée, AdEME, C3D, Crédit Coopératif, Solutions COP21, the Shift Project and World Efficiency, these will provide recognition for innovative solutions put forward by French SMEs or major groups to reduce energy consumption, limit greenhouse gases and preserve resources. There will also be the ceremony for the international Green Building Solutions Awards, which will be presented for outstanding examples of sustainable construction (building, technical solutions or materials) undertaken in countries covered by Construction21 or in its partner countries. Over 20,000 professional visitors are expected: participants in COP21 (heads of state, ministers, UN delegations from 197 countries), professionals (private and public sector decision makers and specifiers, delegations invited by the organizers…) and representatives of the media (printed press, radio, television, blogs). Oil and Gas: France is one of the world leaders
There is Total and then there are the others. That is how some people blindly underestimate the Oil & Gas sector in France. Fortunately, the French landscape for this sector is far richer than that. “What people need to know is that the French offer is positioned among the leaders worldwide,” explains Agnès Hagyak, Project Manager for Hydrocarbons at Ubifrance . France’s para-petroleum sector includes over 400 enterprises and creates 55 000 jobs that are “highly qualified at the technical and scientific level,” according to Agnès Hagyak.
In terms of exports, France even has the 2 nd biggest para-petroleum sector in the world, behind N° 1, the United States. France equals Norway and the United Kingdom. French suppliers account for 90% of their total turnover in exports. Total and GDF Suez, among the major players in the world, naturally draw a lot of attention. Yet there are also many French companies that are not as well known, but who deliver high performance internationally.
“France’s para-petroleum sector includes over 400 enterprises and creates 55 000 jobs that are highly qualified at the technical and scientific level”
Many of them are SMEs who display a very high level of technical expertise . These companies are a hotbed of creativity. When it comes to covering needs in technologies, in equipment and services required for exploring, producing, transporting and refining hydrocarbons, the French offer is considered as top-notch.
French know-how is especially recognized in the area of offshore and deep water drilling, in fact, for any sort of high sea platform. French companies, thoroughly international, can easily position themselves on very specific niches. They are not at all afraid of customizing their solutions. Quite the contrary!
For example, there is the Bardot Group, An SME with international presence, specialized in para-petroleum equipment. In particular, it makes tooling with technical polymers and structures that are soldered by robotic equipment, along with the development of the means to attach and assemble these structures. With such expertise on this niche market, Bardot Group has managed to work on sites in Angola, Texas, Brazil and Malaysia. And BARDOT is hardly the only French company capable of such international success.
Nexans, is a specialist in making cables required by the sector. Expert in electrical engineering (automated solutions, instrumentation and command system) CEGELEC works very successfully on international projects. There are still other players in the market: Air Liquide, Bureau Veritas, Entrepose projets, Ponticelli, all renowned companies.
